Hello everyone!
I read a very inspiring post earlier today that sets the stage for today’s article. The post was written by John Chatman over at “Ask John Chatman.com”
John writes about the importance of setting goals large enough to encompass, and/or surpass the goals of your team. It makes perfect sense when you think about it! How can you lead and inspire someone with aspirations of making $200,000 per year if you have a $50,000 dream? It’s impossible! So set your goals high and believe in the power of you!
“Whoever wants to reach a distant goal must take small steps.” – Helmut Schmidt
If you think you’re new to goal setting, think again, you’re not! Even before you could walk you’ve been setting goals, and achieving them, without even being aware of it. You learned to walk, to run, to climb trees and ride bikes. But when you began to approach adulthood you started to lose the natural drive and ability to dream that you had as a child.
Learning to set, and more importantly, implement a realistic goal program is your way of reawakening the natural achiever inside of you.
RIGHT NOW is the most exciting and prosperous time in recorded history. Never before has it been possible for common, ordinary people to achieve success that defies imagination. No matter what you want to achieve, no matter how successful you want to be, it is entirely possible when you set solid and realistic goals.
Let’s say your goal is to earn $200,000 a year from your Network Marketing efforts. That’s a realistic and attainable goal! This is the kind of residual income could seriously change a person’s life.
But… if you have had any experience with setting goals in the past, you know that once the initial rush of enthusiasm and energy subsides, maintaining your focus becomes a moving target. Similar to a balloon floating upwards, slowly deflating, eventually falling back to earth.
Even if you are doing well, you may find it difficult to remain laser focused on your goal 100% of the time. If that’s the only target you have in your sights you might start thinking it’s impossible to hit, as you wilt in the daunting shadow of your ultimate goal.
“I aimed way too high” you begin to think, as that $200,000 goal looms larger and seems less attainable by the day.
So what is the answer?
Quite simple actually, simply set easily attainable short term goals that act as markers en route to the big prize. Think of yourself as a marathon runner for a moment. Would you try and run 26 miles without a training program designed to gradually increase the aerobic capacity required to finish the race? Of course not – you’d be crazy to do that. Instead, you focus on gradually increasing your stamina by running longer and longer distances until you reach the 26 mile goal. And you can do exactly the same thing with your Network Marketing ambitions too.
This business is built around introducing a large number of people to your products and to your business opportunity. One day you realize that you need to introduce hundreds of people in order to have any real shot at achieving your goal. That would discourage many people – and it might make you begin to believe you weren’t capable of doing it. But you can – you just need to refocus.
So make your first short term goal to get just three people on board. Just three. Imagine how you’d feel when you achieve it! Take them out to dinner – celebrate! You can then take that enthusiasm and delight and use it to carry it towards your next small, short term goal.
Be like a child learning to walk. No child gives up after they fall over a few times. You just get up again and take another step, and another, and another. Keep your ultimate goal in sight, but put your focus on the short term goals.
Break your goal down into daily achievements, and monthly achievements, and work out what actions you need to take in order to stay on course. If you complete your daily actions you will naturally progress from stage to stage without losing enthusiasm or focus along the way. You may be surprised by how little daily action is required in order to get there…
So how is your goal plan looking? Make your Network Marketing goals attainable by starting small and working your way up to the larger ones – you’ll never look back!
