3. Keyword-rich Page Titles

If you want people to find you for a certain keyword phrase, try and make sure you’ve included it in the page title! Think about what you see when you do a Google search for something – the top results almost always have your search terms in the page titles.

4. Anchor Text

When you link to pages on your site, or when other websites link to yours, the actual words that form the click-able link can positively affect your search engine rankings. So when creating links don’t just use the words “click here”, use the keywords you decided you want to rank for.

5. Target Keywords Within Body Content

A lot of people get this step wrong. On the one hand you have people who never use the keywords they wish to rank for, and on the other hand you’ve got the people who use them so much it looks like spam. If you want to rank in Google for a certain keyword or phrase, make sure you include it in the main content of your page, but make it fit naturally, and don’t just make a list of keywords. Don’t forget… don’t target too many keywords on any one page. Keep your content focused!

GOOD NEWS: When it comes to getting free traffic from search engines, most of your competitors don’t have a clue!

According to a report by dotSEO, only 25% of marketers know anything about SEO. This immediately disqualifies three quarters of your competitors! It also now puts you in that top 25%!

What’s in a Meta Tag?

One of the cool and immensely powerful advantages of using WordPress for your internet marketing efforts is the almost endless stream of free plug-ins that are available to not only add new features to your blog, but also to increase the visibility of your blog to search engines such as Google, Bing, Yahoo, and others. But if you are using a stand alone web page to market your product or offer, you may feel lost when it comes time to think about optimizing your site for search engine visibility (SEO).

If you are using a traditional web page, rather than simply configuring an SEO plug-in as you would  for your WordPress blog, you will actually have to get under the hood of your site and make use of  what are known as “meta tags”. You use meta tags to tell the search engines a variety of things such as the title of your site, how often to came back and check your site for new content (index), associate your site with certain keywords and phrases, and several other important web site attributes.

While searching for a utility to help ease the task of creating meta tags I discovered a web site with a free “on page” utility that  makes the task much more manageable. The web site I’m referring to is “Searchbliss.com” (www.searchbliss.com) and the utility is known as the “Meta Tags Generator”. Using the Meta Tag Generator you will be able to define the following meta tags.

1) Title

2) Description

3) Abstract

4)Keywords

5) Robots Revisit

6) Robots Index

7) Rating

8) Distribution

9) Language

Simply enter the desired data into each field then the utility will create your tags in a  text box.  You then copy and paste the text into the  header of your website. Even though Meta Tags Generator greatly simplifies the task of creating your meta tags you’ll still need some rudimentary knowledge of web site structure and how to use a web site editor in order to complete the task.
